During the Summer Term, our Year 3 pupils have the opportunity to become "Young Farmers". Thanks to the generosity of local farmer Hugh Broom, the children are all given a plot on a local farm to tend. The children visit their plots once a week to sow seeds and tend their plants. As well as giving the children an appreciation of where their food comes from and how hard farmers have to work, the topic offers great opportunities to cover elements of the Science , Geography, DT, English and Maths curriculum. One of the first tasks is for the children to design and make scarecrows to protect their plots from the birds. The project culminates in the children holding a sale of their produce for parents and donating the proceeds to a charity of their choice.
