Play Brick Therapy

Play-Brick Therapy is a research-supported approach designed to help children develop important social and communication skills. These include sharing, taking turns, following rules, using names, and solving problems together.
Play-Brick Therapy is a natural and engaging setting, where children can practise social communication through play, using a familiar and much-loved activity.
Building as a team naturally creates a shared focus, helping children experience the positive effects of clear communication and cooperation. As the group sees their model come together, each child’s contribution becomes visible and valued, building confidence and self-esteem.
Sessions are supported by adults who guide rather than directly instruct, creating a calm, predictable, and secure environment where language and social interaction can flourish.
During these sessions, children work collaboratively in groups of three to build a model. Each child takes on a specific role:
· Engineer: Reads the instructions and asks for the pieces needed.
· Supplier: Finds and passes the requested pieces to the Builder.
· Builder: Follows the Engineer’s directions to assemble the model.
This structure encourages teamwork, communication, and mutual respect as children rely on one another to complete their shared goal.
Play-Brick Therapy supports a range of developmental goals, including:
· Social communication and teamwork
· Turn-taking and sharing
· Problem-solving and planning
· Fine motor skills and spatial awareness
Our sessions are run in small groups or one-to-one, typically over a six-week programme.
Impact
Many children find Play-Brick Therapy calming and enjoyable. The familiar, structured format helps them feel secure, knowing what to expect and what is expected of them. As they engage in purposeful play, they build not only models but also confidence, friendships, and vital social skills that can be carried into other areas of life.
