Lexia – Supporting Reading and Literacy at St Joseph’s

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to become a confident, capable, and enthusiastic reader. To help us achieve this, we use Lexia, an engaging, technology-based literacy programme that provides personalised learning experiences tailored to each child’s needs.

Lexia is particularly used to support children who have been identified as needing additional help with reading. The programme focuses on the key skills required for reading success, including phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Each child works through a personalised learning pathway that adapts automatically to their progress, ensuring that they receive the right level of challenge and support. Pupils enjoy the interactive, game-like activities that make learning to read both fun and rewarding.

Teachers at St Joseph’s use Lexia not only to engage pupils but also to monitor their progress closely. The system provides real-time data, helping staff identify areas where children may need extra guidance. In addition, Lexia offers a range of printable teaching resources and lesson ideas, which are used to reinforce learning through small-group and one-to-one sessions.

By combining innovative technology with our school’s caring, faith-filled ethos, Lexia helps every child at St Joseph’s to strengthen their reading skills, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of literacy.

Impact

Lexia helps our pupils build confidence and independence in reading, strengthen key skills like phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension, and make measurable progress. It supports children who need extra help, giving them the tools to succeed and enjoy reading.
