Art and Design

At St Joseph's, we believe that every child is an artist. Through our engaging and creative Art and Design curriculum, pupils are encouraged to explore, experiment and express themselves while developing a wide range of artistic skills and techniques.

We use the Kapow Primary Art and Design scheme to provide a high-quality, progressive curriculum that builds knowledge and skills from Reception through to Year 6. Children learn about a variety of artists, designers and craftspeople from different times and cultures, inspiring them to develop their own creativity and artistic style.

Through drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, textiles and mixed media, pupils are given opportunities to create, evaluate and refine their work. They learn how art can communicate ideas, emotions and experiences, while developing confidence, resilience and pride in their achievements.

Our aim is to nurture curious, imaginative and confident learners who appreciate the value of art and are inspired to express themselves creatively throughout their lives.
