At St Joseph’s, we believe that learning a modern foreign language broadens horizons and helps children develop an understanding and appreciation of different cultures. Through the Primary Language Network programme, pupils learn French in a fun, engaging and progressive way from Key Stage 2 onwards.

Our French curriculum develops children's speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through a wide range of interactive activities, songs, games and cultural experiences. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build vocabulary and confidence over time, enabling pupils to communicate in French with increasing accuracy and fluency.

Alongside language learning, children explore aspects of French culture and traditions, fostering curiosity, respect and a wider understanding of the world around them. By the time they leave St Joseph’s, pupils have developed a strong foundation in French and a positive attitude towards language learning that will support them in their future education.
