Jubilee 2025 - Pilgrims of Hope
Pope Francis decided that 2025 would be a year of Jubilee, something which happens every 25 years. The theme is "Pilgrims of Hope". The Pope invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can "restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone". We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God's creation in which we understand ourselves as "pilgrims on the earth" rather than masters of the world.
Meet Julio: Our Jubilee Bear
Julio, our Jubilee bear, has joined the children in some liturgies, lessons and clubs.
Jubilee Launch Day 2025
The children took part in the schools’ launch of the Jubilee Year today. Pope Francis has chosen the theme of ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. The Year 6 members of the Lily Squad lead us in our launch liturgy. The children have also been involved in class-based activities, thinking about the meaning behind the logo and also finding out more about the theme of hope and how they can be signs of hope in the world by putting Catholic Social Teaching into action. We look forward to journeying through the year ahead.
Our School Pledge Day
We held our own school 'Pledge Day' where each class thought about what pledges they would like to make. Children thought about our Catholic Social Teaching Principles and how they would consider these when making their pledges. Class representatives showed the rest of the school a selection of their pledges at a special assembly. We joined all of our pledges together to make our St Joseph's Jubilee pledge, which is linked at the bottom of this page.
Good Shepherd Celebration
Every year, all the schools in our Diocese are invited to send representatives to participate in the Good Shepherd Celebration, a special service organised by the Diocesan Education Service and celebrated by Bishop Richard Moth. This year, to mark the Jubilee, the service took place at Arundel Cathedral and each school presented their pledges for the Year of Hope. Representatives from St Joseph's presented Bishop Richard with a Pilgrims of Hope dove which was holding our St Joseph's School pledge.
